Encaustic Light Houses

In this innovative class, you will oversee the marriage of textiles and encaustic wax medium. You will learn how to create fabric with your favorite images and form stiff wall panels, ready to be adorned with your best bits and baubles. Encaustic wax medium will be added to these walls to give them strength and a lovely finish. Sew up the sides with waxed linen thread and add a roof and you will have a wonderful little house to set on a shelf or mantelpiece. The best part is placing an electric votive inside the house ... sit back and watch the light glow and flicker through the waxed walls!

SCHEDULE:

• Arrive & Settle: 8:30 :: Time for students to arrive, and settle in.
• Class Segment A: 9:30-12:00 :: Class time with Stephanie who will demonstrate and guide the 1st part of class.
• Lunch & Stroll: 12:00 PM :: You can choose to brown bag it or take a stroll to one of the many hip and artsy eateries in the historic Artist's Village in Santa Ana, like The Gypsy Den, or Lola Gaspar.
• Class Segment B: 1:30-4:00 PM :: Class time with Stephanie who will guide the 2nd part of class.
• Show & Tell, Clean-Up & Depart: 4:00-5:00 PM

STUDENTS SHOULD BRING:

• Scissors
• Awl or needle tool
• Ruler
• Favorite fabric trims
• Treasures (some need to be heat-safe)
• Favorite colors of embroidery thread
• Pencil
  

TEACHER WILL PROVIDE:

• Encaustic medium
• Brushes
• Waxed linen thread
• Extra fabric
• Needles
• Heat guns

KIT INCLUDES (no additional price)

• Gem tintype
• Pre-printed fabric panels
• Electric votive

NOTE: Stephanie will have a limited number of original works for sale.
