Enviable Encaustic Panels

1-Day Workshop on Saturday, October 13, 2012

Spend the day in a fun and experimental workshop where you will learn how to work with encaustic medium as a wonderful surface treatment over images and artwork. Basic information about encaustic medium will be covered, then will proceed through finishing surfaces, inscribing, back-filling and inclusions, among other things. We will also discuss and play with cutting and drilling metal to add extra "oomph" to your panels. Discover how you can use this incredibly versatile medium to take your artwork to a new level.

SCHEDULE:

• Arrive & Settle: 8:30 :: Time for students to arrive, and settle in.
• Class Segment A: 9:00-12:00 :: Class time with Stephanie who will demonstrate and guide the 1st part of class.
• Lunch & Stroll: 12:00 PM :: You can choose to brown bag it or take a stroll to one of the many hip and artsy eateries in the historic Artist's Village in Santa Ana, like The Gypsy Den, or Lola Gaspar.
• Class Segment B: 1:30-4:00 PM :: Class time with Stephanie who will guide the 2nd part of class.
• Show & Tell, Clean-Up & Depart: 4:00-5:0 PM

STUDENTS SHOULD BRING:

• Scissors
• Awl or needle tool
• Ruler
• Favorite fabric trims
• Treasures (some need to be heat-safe)
• Pencil

OPTIONAL ITEMS TO BRING:

• Thin-gauge metal from candy/tobacco/cookie tins
• Tin shears (Fiskars Microtip Soft Touch scissors)
• Lightweight papers
  

TEACHER WILL PROVIDE:

• Encaustic medium
• Cradled Hardboards
• Oil sticks
• Metal tools to impress wax
• Brushes
• Heat guns

KIT INCLUDES (no additional price)

• Gem tintype
• Real butterfly wings
• 1 small wooden house
• Pre-printed images
• Miniature nuts and bolts

NOTE: Stephanie will have a limited number of original works for sale.
