In this two-day workshop ... we'll be creating big mixed media collage! Discover how working large changes your art and opens up exciting possibilities for detail, abstraction, and impact. We'll work on two pieces simultanenously, exploring different approaches in each piece.

2-Day Workshop on Wednesday and Thursday
January 13th and 14th, 2016

SCHEDULE for Both Days:

  • Arrive & Settle: 9:00 :: Time to arrive, and settle in.
  • Class Segment A: 9:30-12:00 :: Class time with Julie who will demonstrate and guide the 1st part of class.
  • Lunch & Stroll: 12:00 PM :: You can choose to brown bag it or take a stroll to one of the many hip and artsy eateries in the historic Artist's Village in Santa Ana,like C4 Deli, Chapter One, Paninoteca, Boldo, 4th Street Market, Cafe Calacas, and The Gypsy Den.
  • Class Segment B: 1:30-4:30 PM :: Class time w/ Julie who'll guide 2nd part of class.
  • Show & Tell, Clean-Up & Depart: 4:30-5:00 PM

STUDENTS SHOULD BRING:

  • Papers for collage (personally, I like to use hand-painted papers but you are welcome to bring whatever you'd like
  • Bristle paint brushes: 1 large flat, 1 round medium, 1 small medium, and any other brushes you love to use
  • Acrylic paints: 6-12 colors, including black and white
  • Liquitex Matte Medium (or a similar gel medium)
  • Credit card or plastic hotel room key
  • Paper towel or paint rag
  • Palette paper or a paper plate to use as a palette
  • 2 large canvases (about 30x30 inchse) - if you work quickly, feel free to bring more than 2 (you can also work on large watercolor paper if you'd rather not commit to canvas.
  • Water-soluble crayons or pencil in a dark color (for example: black, brown, forest green, deep blue, etc.)
  • Ballpoint pen
  • Loose paper or notebook for sketching
  • 10 legal sized folders
  • Optional: apron, baby wipes, gesso, palette knife, spray bottle of water, favorite stencils, favorite stamps, artists tape, house paint, bubble wrap or other texture tools, deli paper, legal sized redwell
