with Misty Mawn
2-Day Workshop on Saturday and Sunday

Throughout our life’s journey we are often wandering, sometimes more, sometimes less, few of us stay in the same exact place, moving from here to there, traveling for work or play, exploring new areas close by or far away. There’s too much out in the world to see and do to stay dormant. There’s so much to experience, so much to feel, so much to take in. But there are times when we are home, and need to be home, not able to travel or experience as much as we would like, so we pore over books, magazines, newspapers to live vicariously until we can get back out there and create our own adventurous stories.

It certainly is a wonderful way to travel without leaving home. While reading I often visualize paintings in my head of what I am taking from the stories I am reading. I have begun to sketch out these stories and feel a greater connection to each story that I turn into a piece of art.

 

For this workshop we will gather stories that we want to illustrate with various techniques and materials. On the first day we will do several exercises while exploring proportions of the human form and portrait. We will then work out drawings for the stories that we wish to illustrate. Day two will be a full day of creating paintings inspired by these stories. This workshop is for the skillful or beginner artist.

 

SCHEDULE (for both days)

  • Arrive & Settle: 9:00 :: Time for students to arrive, settle in, and grab a cup of coffee.
  • Class Segment A: 9:30-12:00 :: Class time with Misty who will demonstrate and guide the 1st part of class.
  • Lunch & Stroll: 12:00 PM :: You can choose to brown bag it or take a stroll to one of the many hip and artsy eateries in the historic Artist's Village in Santa Ana like C4 Deli, Chapter One, The Gypsy Den, 4th Street Market, Cafe Calacas, Paninoteca, and Boldo.
  • Class Segment B: 1:30-4:30 PM :: Class time with Misty who will guide the 2nd part of class.
  • Closing & Depart: 4:30-5:00 PM


SUPPLY LIST

Students should bring:

  • White gesso
  • Modeling paste
  • Titanium white paint
  • Basic watercolor set (I love the small set of Kuretake Gansai Tambi Watercolors)
  • A few water-soluble art crayons (your favorite colors)
  • A small variety of brushes
  • Wet wipes or a rag and apron

SUPPLY KIT FEE: An additional $15 kit fee for supplies that Misty brings for each student to use will be collected by Misty during the class.
