Set your portraits apart from the rest as you begin the journey to developing a style of your own!
Portraits can be an intimidating subject, but mixed media artist and
author, Pam Carriker, helps you take on faces one quick sketch at a time
as she guides you through her Face Mapping techniques for front, side
and ¾ view portraits using the methods from her new book, Mixed Media Portraits with Pam Carriker.
Not only will she take you through the basics, she’ll show you easy
ways to draw more realistic faces and ways to achieve your own signature
style. On day one you will explore sketching using pencil, Conte Crayon
and pencil wash to create a variety of sketches that you can use and
reuse in your mixed-media work. The second day you will begin your
exploration of mixed media techniques, using your first day sketches to
work from or if you prefer you can use Face Map stencils to work from.
Mediums and Techniques that will be explored:
- Face-mapping techniques that allow you to draw faces from your imagination, without a model or reference photo
- Using pencil, Conte Crayon and Stabilo sketching techniques
- Breaking down each facial feature into simple steps
- Using Color Wheels to explore mixing both realistic and out-of-the-ordinary skin tones
- A variety of substrates and techniques including Conte Crayon,
acrylics paint mixing with a ‘dirty brush’ technique, grayscale value
painting, and primary color mixing techniques for creating unique
skintones.
Pam believes that most artists want to develop a signature look and
style of portraiture. This workshop is geared to get you into the habit
of daily sketching and using your sketches to create mixed media
portraits that are truly and uniquely your own.
