Have you ever wondered how to get the "random layer" look? Join me for a messy adventure. Random layers are a sort of paradox. They are organic and look random but in reality they aren't random at all. I will show you how to create and control them. In the morning we'll master background techniques while we work simultaneously in our journals and on large pieces of watercolor paper. In the afternoon, we'll add focal points and meaningful words. Don't worry if you don't have drawing experience, I will show you how to do it!

SCHEDULE:

  • Arrive & Settle: 9:00 :: Time for students to arrive, and settle in.
  • Class Segment A: 9:30-12:00 :: Class time with Dina who will demonstrate and guide the 1st part of class.
  • Lunch & Stroll: 12:00 PM :: You can choose to brown bag it or take a stroll to one of the many hip and artsy eateries in the historic Artist's Village in Santa Anal like C4 Deli, Chapter One, and The Gypsy Den, 4th Street Market, Cafe Calacas, Paninoteca, and Boldo.
  • Class Segment B: 1:30-4:30 PM :: Class time with Dina who will guide the 2nd part of class.
  • Show & Tell, Clean-Up & Depart: 4:30-5:00 PM


STUDENTS SHOULD BRING:

  • Your art journal
  • Water mister
  • Rags, cut to wash your brushes
  • Your favorite paintbrushes and paints (I will have my paints for you to use, but bring any others you like)
  • White gesso
  • Crayons like Neocolor II
  • Good pencil sharpener

TEACHER WILL PROVIDE:

  • Watercolor paper
  • Stabilo marks-all pencil
  • Dina Wakley Media acrylic paints and mediums
  • Mark-making tools

NOTES:

  • Dina will have a limited number of art supplies available for sale.
