Believe it or not, the nuts and bolts of publishing (like how to develop a proposal, how to make a pitch and how to follow up with details) is the easy part of getting published.

Being clear about the heart of what you want to publish, knowing your intent for wanting to be published, and having the discipline to work on that heart and intent in a commited and consistent basis is the hard part.

Join me for a half-day experience LIVE in Studio CRESCENDOh where we will explore your intent, and then have lots of fun diving into the nuts and bolts of publishing as we:

• explore the concept of developing a unique and compelling body of work
• explore the concept of authenticity v. trends within art
• demystify how books get pitched and produced
• explore the ins and outs of magazine publishing
• weigh the pros and cons of online publishing and self-publishing
• learn to let go and cope with worst case scenarios

We will also explore larger issues that impact your publishing goals including:

• the basics of time management skills, including practical tools to translate cliches (like "dream big" and "follow your bliss") into practical and results-oriented tasks
• how to avoid resting on laurels
• the 3 keys to developing a stellar professional reputation

SCHEDULE

• Arrive & Settle: 9:00 :: Time for students to arrive, settle in.
• Class Segment A: 9:30-1:30 :: Class time with Jenny who will guide the class.

STUDENTS SHOULD BRING

• Blank journal, pens and markers. We will use the journal to do some basic visual journaling exercises. If you like to use paints and inks and other journaling materials, you are invited to bring those items along as well. This is not an art journaling class but you will be encouraged to decorate your exercises with your favorite materials.
• A piece or two of art that you have made that reflects what you think you'd like to share in the world of publishing. Work that represents your style, and work that you are proud of.
• If possible, bring the tools and materials that you use to make the art that represents who you are. For example, if you crochet, bring yarn and a hook. If you paint, bring paints and a canvas. You don't need to bring your entire studio ... just enough to demonstrate to others, what it is that you do.
